I love markets.
A couple of weeks ago we went to Redcliffe market. It is held every Sunday. There are loads of stalls filled with fresh farm produce and meats, artisan goods, trawler fresh seafood, fresh baked breads, gourmet food and provisions, handmade wares, arts and craft, ice cream and LOTS more.
It supports the best growers, makers, builders and bakers in
Moreton Bay and surrounding areas.
'The Bee Gee's Way' is an alley unveiled in 2013 by Moreton Bay Council. The open-air museum charts their meteoric rise to fame and fortune. The alley features more than 60 captioned photos and 13 album covers spanning their career.
After emigrating from Manchester, England to Redcliffe, Queensland in the late 1950’s it only took the brothers Gibb, Barry, Maurice, and Robin, two years to land a regular gig at the Redcliffe Speedway. They would perform during intervals on the back of a truck to crowds of people who would throw money on the track. Barry was the eldest, just 14 years old. The Bee Gees signed their first music contract on the family’s kitchen table in Redcliffe and Barry has often said was ‘paradise in 1958 and it still is.’
We didn't know about this collective market
we visited the Soutbank area of Brisbane to walk along the river and have a meal. When we arrived at the market we thought they were packing up, but it was only just starting, and after having a meal we walked back along the lovely lit stalls.
It looked prettier than my photo shows.
Held over 3 days every weekend in Stanley Plaza in South Bank from Friday night through to Sunday afternoon, the Collective Markets are a magnet for Brisbanites and tourists alike. With an eclectic mix of original art, photography, unique gifts, trending fashion and vintage clothing, as well as foodie stalls and live music, the Collective Markets are a vibrant cultural melting pot set in the artisan's heart of Brisbane.

We knew about the ice cream fair at West End Markets.
It would be difficult for the stall holders to offer small samples
of each flavour, so we opted for our favourites.
We had an early dinner and took cakes home for later!

Oh dear, my holiday is drawing to a close. Tomorrow I must say cheerio to my daughter and return home. I must hold on to the notion that good things must come to and end in order to plan for future good things.
Not the same subject, but the title is relevant to how I'm feeling
∼ Be safe and well∼

ReplyDeleteMe too.
DeleteLoved the Bee Gees just saw a documentary last yr ..it was great.
ReplyDeleteHow nice you had this time.My local market cosed its doors for covid.. and now never to re-open again.:(
It's so sad all the businesses that closed during covid and haven't re-opened.
DeleteThe Brisbane Collective Market sounds fabulous! And the Bee Gees way too! It's sad that your wonderful holiday is coming to a close, but I hope the happy memories sustain you until you can make it back to Australia again!
ReplyDeleteThank you Debra. It is lovely looking at my photos, remembering all the happy moments.
DeleteSafe journey home - I am pleased that you have had such a lovely holiday with your daughter. It must be difficult knowing that she is so far away, but very special when you do manage to spend quality time together.
ReplyDeleteThank you Rosemary, the journey home was good and surprisingly quick.
DeleteIt’s a bummer to have to leave. Your entire trip sounded wonderful. I remember one of my friends having a crush on Andy Gibb. The Bee Gees were iconic, so that alley must have been a fun stroll into the past.
ReplyDeleteIt was Bijoux, I expect it would be spectacular at night time when it is lit up.
DeleteI haven't been to a market in such a long time and this one looks like it was so much fun. The Bee Gees make it even better! What a grand time you are having!
ReplyDeleteI love browsing around markets.
DeleteThat market sounds and looks wonderful! Wish we had such a thing here.
ReplyDeleteThere were lots of them in and around Brisbane.
DeleteYes, markets are fun, aren't they? There's a great market in Belfast city centre. Unfortunately it doesn't run to an ice cream fair! I always thought the Bee Gees lived in England - now I know better! Have a good return flight.
ReplyDeleteThank you Nick.
DeleteEven though your trip will be ending soon, Polly, you have shared the obviously good times spent with your daughter.
ReplyDeleteI have Beatrice, and I know that I will be able to visit again before too long.
DeleteIt was Vicki.
