Today should be a happy day, it's the day I should be on a plane to Singapore en route to Australia to spend Christmas with my darling daughter. As I write this we would have taken off and be somewhere over the English Channel, waving goodbye to the rain! The excitement I should be feeling has evaporated and left me feeling sad, angry, and a bit down.
I'm not feeling bah humbug but I'm not feeling any Christmas spirit. Although to be honest I haven't felt that for a few years now. My daughters are grown up, my grandson is 17, I'm not religious any more so Christmas is no longer a special magical time. I will still have a nice time though, with daughter, grandson and SIL. Some delicious food, nice wine, good films and quizzes.
Such a shame that your trip had to be cancelled, lets hope that it'll be possible to travel next year. I got an excited email from my brother this morning to tell me it was snowing - he's only 65!
ReplyDeleteah, I think that's nice, snow can be exciting at any age :-)
DeleteOur PM announced yesterday NO CHRISTMAS Gatherings..at all..so that's where we are in QC..Sorry for you..but at least you are with loved ones.
ReplyDeleteI was searching advent calendars..with boxes..next year I want to give each of my girls one..filled..What a sweet idea.
WHen they were young I had made a felt one for them and velcro ornaments;)
Would love to find an empty something like yours..I found wood ones but reviews are so poor re quality and size of drawers. Have a good weekend.
Oh Monique I'm so sorry you won't be able to spend Christmas with your loved ones. I can't go to Australia but as you say I will still be with my family. My daughter got the advent box from Hobbycraft, I'm not sure if they are just here in the UK.
DeleteThat was a lovely gift indeed. The vaccine is out in the UK soon I believe. I hope you can visit Australia early next year!
ReplyDeleteThank you Marie. I want to book something now, but will have to wait to see what happens.
DeleteLove the advent calendar! So fabulous!
ReplyDeleteIt is Debra, I want to open all the boxes, but I'm being very good!
DeleteYou have the best advent calendars in the UK! I remember that from my visit -- they were just so much fun! I'm sorry that your plans had to be canceled. But Christmas season isn't --it's just different. I finally was able to start to decorate, although no heavy lifting and my back can only take so much before it tells me to take a break. But a start, albeit a late one.
ReplyDeleteWe do have some good selections. My back has been aching for a few days, it feels better today. I don't know how I did it this time!
DeleteThat truly sucks, Polly. I’m so sorry that your trip had to be canceled. I’m worried we won’t be able to see our grandkids for Xmas. It makes me angry, as the toddler years are precious and short. But I do love your advent calendar box.
ReplyDeleteThank you Bijoux. I hope you are able to see your grandchildren. The toddler years are precious times to start building happy memories.
DeleteA shame you can't go to Australia to see your daughter. Hopefully the mass vaccination programme will get the virus under control and you can make that overdue trip in the new year.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful advent box!
Thank you Nick, I really hope so.
DeleteI can understand your disappointment, Polly, and so can many others who don't have family nearby to visit this holiday season, ourselves included The advent calendar looks like so much fun and what restraint you have in not opening until the given day. Hopefully, you will be able to connect with your daughter in Australia online, not the same as being there, but a connection.
ReplyDeleteWe talk regularly on whatsapp, and do video calls now and again. We will video on Christmas day.
