We had a weekend of Coronation fun in the village starting with the screening of the event in our village hall. The turn out was a bit disappointing, probably due to the drizzling rain, but I think a lot of people wanted to watch it in their homes. Even free tea and cakes couldn't tempt more people out! But then on Sunday we had an amazing turn out. I think quite a few people had come from further afield, we heard that we were the only village in the area that had organised entertainment. According to the guys who do the numbers it was the largest turnout for a community event in over 20 years! Everybody did a grand job.
The day started after the church service with a BBQ,
people also bought their own picnics.
We had a plant stall. That wheelbarrow belongs to the lovely J, she has had it a long time and loves it. It is used to transport all manner of things - plants, crockery, the maypole, straw bales, ice creams, and umpteen uses at her home.

Then the guys/dads. They did much better second time around. I love the comments from the sound guy on this video!
And then the ladies/mums. I couldn't get a good video, it was either too bright for me to see what I was doing or people getting in the way! You'll have to take my word for it - the ladies were the best 😀
Myself and two other WI ladies manned the tea and cake stall, I forgot to take a photo but it was similar to the one above except it was outside.
The prosecco bar was very popular
Inside was a bouncy castle
a painting and crafting table, an art exhibition from the village art club,
and the bar
We were so busy on the tea and cake stall I didn't have time to photograph everything that was going on. There was indoor horse racing, crockery smash, hook the ducks, ping pong blitz, guess the weight of the cake (I didn't get it right), splat the rat, and an ice cream parlour. The day ended with the King's Challenge - a tug of war competition.
It was a GREAT day, and the weather was glorious.

"Welcome to the home of the bewildered," LOL! Looks like a great celebration, packed with lots of things to do!
ReplyDeleteIt was Debra, it was great for all ages.
DeleteGlad everything went well - on the Sunday at least. If you can't get people to a village event with free tea you're usually in trouble!
ReplyDeleteI know, but with the rain I think folks had tea (or alcohol) in their homes!
DeleteI would have expected more folks to turn up for the tea and treats, but guess home seemed better. Glad the turnout was better the next day. I saw several online photos of block parties and it looked like a good time was had by all.
ReplyDeleteI loved watching the news coverage of parties around the country,
DeleteI'm sure everyone enjoyed this grand social event, which looks like a lot of fun. Though whenever I've guessed the weight of the cake I've always got it totally wrong! But I wonder why we taxpayers have to fork out £250 million for an unnecessary Coronation ceremony (since he became King Charles immediately the Queen died).
ReplyDeleteI agree, it's a lot of money for a load of pomp and pompous people to enjoy a bit of a do. I'm still a royalist but not as much as when Lizzie was queen.
