A Well Earned Break

An hour of concentrated work in the garden deserves a well earned break

and what better way than with a raspberry jam doughnut,
brain food for planning what to do next ☺️

Cutting a few roses to fill the room with their beauty and exquisite scent. Is there any fragrance more legendary than the perfume of the rose? And it doesn't get any better than David Austen roses.

My garden isn't small, I bought this when I did have a small garden,
but it's a favourite, a treasure trove of lovely ideas and information.

We have a mixed bag of weather today, this morning was cloudy with sunny intervals, and mild, ideal gardening weather for me. It's looking a bit cloudy now so I think this afternoon will be spent watching The Handmaid's Tale. It's grim, and makes me angry. It's amazing how fictional programmes can get right into the mind and senses and create strong emotions. The power of story telling.

Happy Gardening ~
Be safe and well

  1. Hi Polly, I love your little vignette with everything pink! The rose is beautiful and your donut looks delicious. Our weather here today in Illinois (US) is quite warm today - 84F. We turned on the AC for the first time this season today.

    1. Hi Melanie, thank you for visiting. It was hot here today, I like hot weather, but I need to be in the shade nowadays.

  2. You DO deserve a break. Your pink donuts look lots prettier than the blue ones I saw on another post. Donuts shouldn't be blue. Ah, the garden. I try, but kill most things I touch. I will enjoy yours!

    1. I agree, blue doughnuts - NO. I'm really pleased with my garden so far, I think because I have more time I'm paying more attention to watering and feeding :-)

  3. You were really “in the pink” with the top photo, Polly, and yes you definitely deserved a raspberry cream donut. That rose was beautiful and I am imagining its intoxicating scent now.

  5. I love roses - but they must be scented. I haven't tried any of the David Austin ones but am very tempted by them

    1. They're a bit more expensive, but well worth it.

  6. The TV version of The Handmaid's Tale is pretty grim. We actually stopped watching it after a while because it was too gruesome to bear. But we've both read the book so we knew how the story continued.

My well-earned break would probably include a chocolate chip cookie. Or a bowl of mint and chocolate ice cream. There's certainly plenty of gardening to do now everything's growing like the clappers.

    1. I have to have a break now and again to watch something light or funny like Gogglebox, I love it. My other favourite snack is McVitie's dark chocolate digestives.

  10. Perhaps a large garden is in some respects a composite of small gardens joined together. I am sure that even the smallest garden has been a haven for people during Covid confinement.
