Lunchtime concerts in the Cathedral have started again after a summer break. Friday's concert was Crispin Lewis and Raymond Lewis - Baritone and Pianist.
Accomplished musicians but not to my liking.
The programme featured the rediscovered songs of Herbert Murrill. Along with the programme information was a songsheet. Very obscure, this is a small sample:
Mistletoe on the handlebars of the bicycle, gift from the guide
Lisie leaves for Paris
Leo leaves for Lisieux
Mistletoe on the handlebars of the bicycle, gift from the guide
Bicycle on the misletoe
Handlebars over the eyes
Leo leaves for Lisieux
Lisie will buy the eggs
Mistletoe on the handlebars of the bicycle, gift from the guide
Leo leaves for Paris
Vivi leaves for the suburbs
On the misletoe
On the gift
On the handlebars of the bicycle, gift from the guide.
I left after only about 20 minutes.
∼ Be safe and well∼

Are these concerts free, by any chance?
ReplyDeleteThey are Debra, and usually very good. I think most people give a donation. There was a large audience so clearly a lot of people were enjoying it, or were too polite to leave!!
DeleteI've attended some very good lunchtime concerts and I've attended .....
ReplyDeleteBellowing baritones are rarely to my taste; I much prefer an instrumental interlude in the middle of the day - flute and guitar or violin and piano perhaps.
Forthcoming concerts are Organ, which I usually like, piano, ditto and recorders which I haven't seen before.
DeleteThe acoustics and the atmosphere are so great in a place like that. Aloha!
ReplyDeleteThey are Cloudia. Thank you.
DeleteMaybe the next concert will be more to your liking. The poem is incomprehensible, to me, anyway.
ReplyDeleteI think the next four will be :-)
DeleteLoved those concerts.
ReplyDeleteI like them too. Volunteers used to serve very good sandwiches, cake and drinks but they stopped after covid. Very disappointing :-(
DeleteHow lovely to have concerts so close at hand (even if not every one is a winner!)
ReplyDeleteIt is Jeanie, and they are very well attended.
