Lunchtime Concert

Today's lunchtime concert in the Cathedral was Flautista, a trio of lady flutists, or is it flautists? According to the Oxford English Dictionary the word flutist (1603) is a much older established word than flautist (1860). And the English term flute is related to the modern French flĂ»te, so it is thought that the player of that instrument would be a flutist.
Anyway flutist or flautist they were wonderful, charming, delightful. They played an assortment of pieces - Mendelssohn, Tchaikovsky, Bizet, on an assortment of flutes. Some of which we recognised but enjoyed all of them.

Aren't those shoes delicious, I used to wear shoes like that a long, long, long time ago.

They wear beautiful red heels as a means of adding some colour to their black concert dresses.
One was wearing sparkly red ones like Dorothy's in "The Wizard of Oz".

I had cheese and pickle sandwiches and a cup of tea.

Afterwards my friend M and I browsed around town before catching the bus home. My bus was late, or rather I think it just didn't arrive, thankfully they run every 15 minutes so I was still in time to pick my grandson up from trampoline after school.

Time for tea now.
I hope you have a good weekend and

~Keep warm and well ~

  1. I always have thought flautist sounded high-faluting! I never liked it -- made it sound too snobby for me to listen to! I like flutist much better!

I enjoyed lunchtime concerts when we were in England. So nice you have them more often in your churches than we seem to here.

  2. That sounds delightful. Check out "US Army Band Flute choir Wassail Song" on YouTube. You'll be relieved to hear that I've never worn shoes like that - well, not since I used to shuffle about in my mother's high-heels when I was about four!

    1. Very relieved John. The US Army Band are lovely. The girls we saw had the same assortment of instruments. I do like the sound of the flute.

  3. What a perfectly delightful way to spend a lunchtime Polly, cheese and pickle sandwiches are yum, I could eat one right now, I won't though as it's nine o'clock over here in Perth :) Oh la! Those heels! I remember the day also, they are pretty fabulous. I'm going with flutist, sounds right to me and spellcheck prefers it also :) :) Hope you are feeling tip top now, usually it's the cough that takes the longest to go.

  4. Sounds like a wonderful concert. I used to wear shoes like that many moons ago. I am not sure I would be able to walk in them these days.

  5. A good job they didn't ask the audience to come in red high heels. There could have been a lot of toppling over....
