My 17 year old grandson had his first driving lesson today. Last year his parents took him for a few lessons on private land and he did quite well. I bought some lessons for his birthday last October but he wasn't able to use them until now. His driving instructor was very pleased with him.
I'm happy for him, and terrified!

ReplyDeleteI hope you won't feel too anxious :-)
DeleteWorrying times. My eldest grandchild is 10 so we haven't reached that stage yet.
ReplyDeleteI will worry when he is driving.
DeleteI was a nervous wreck when my kids did drivers ed! Long time till the grandkids are there, thank goodness!
ReplyDeleteI don't remember feeling this anxious when my daughters started driving, perhaps that's because there wes less traffic on the roads then, and people were more patient.
DeleteDriving lessons are a wonderful gift!
ReplyDeleteI always knew that's what I would get for his 17th birthday :-)
DeleteI'm so proud that I taught both daughters to drive and they passed first time! My son, on the other hand, who I also taught, failed about four times!
ReplyDeleteI think the worst part is when they start actually driving on their own
I started giving my daughters lessons but I wasn't very patient, and I was nervous, so they had a few with their dad, then with an instructor. I will be a nervous wreck when my grandson starts driving on his own.
DeleteYour post has inspired me to write one which I am sure will be of interest to you.

I've just visited your blog Rmanana, that's a great idea.
DeleteSuch a milestone in a young person’s life. I understand your feelings though.
ReplyDeleteIt is Marie, I don't let on how anxious I am!
DeleteDriving lessons are a very generous gift. I'm glad the driving instructor is pleased with him. Do they both wear masks during the lesson?
ReplyDeleteI don't know Joe, I didn't think to ask.
DeleteI remember riding with Greg when he had his permit. It wasn't pretty. Good news that he's doing well.
ReplyDeleteI will be very nervous when I'm a passenger with him!
DeleteFun times ahead! Here in Canada most people drive cars with automatic transmissions but when my own kids learned to drive we insisted they train on manual transmission vehicles. They are the only ones within their peer group who can drive a manual transmission but are glad they listened to us! Good luck to your grandson. - Marilyn D.
ReplyDeleteI think it's best to learn with manual transmission.
DeleteI wonder if driving instructors have a shortened life span???? The man that helped my kids learn, reeked of cigarette smoke. Poor thing probably needed 2 packs a day to relax. If the driving stress doesn't do him in, the tobacco surely will.
ReplyDeleteha, ha, yes Carrie, I couldn't be a driving instructor!
DeleteSo exciting, Polly ... you must be so proud of him !
ReplyDeleteHope you're having a lovely week,
Sylvia
Thank you Sylvia.
DeleteA big milestone for your grandson. Deep breaths, Polly. ;)
ReplyDeleteIt is Nancy, lots of deep breaths!
DeleteDriving lesson is great gift! He uses driving licence throughout the his life. So this gift never be old. Have a wonderful day. Greetings from Turkey.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteIt must be hard to have confidence that your kids can now handle all those adult things like driving, when for years they've not been capable of them. The only thing to watch is that once he's got his licence he doesn't get over-confident and do something daft!
ReplyDeleteThat's what worries me Nick.
DeleteOur eldest Grandson hopes to start driving lessons later this year when he has his 17th birthday.
ReplyDeleteWhere those 17years have gone is a mystery, they have whizzed by!
Good luck to your Grandson :)
All the best Jan
Thank you Jan. Same here about the last 17 years!
